Kitty Whittington: From Rags to Riches!

Preparatory

05 April 2019

On Tuesday and Wednesday evenings of this week the long anticipated Year 6 production came to fruition and the shows were spectacular. It was very hard to believe that the performers are only in Year 6 as they all gave confident and assured performances.

The story is set in London in the 1800s where life is tough for a girl with no parents, no money, and little hope of a meaningful future.  But Kitty is no ordinary girl.  She’s going to make something of her life if it’s the last thing that she does.  All she needs is someone to give her a fighting chance, and when Mr Fitzwarren takes her in as a kitchen hand, she thinks she may have found it.  However, the fearsome cook, Mrs Tilbury, and her loathsome daughter, Sarah, have other ideas, not to mention the rats and mice which infest Kitty’s bedroom each night.

The story is one of resourcefulness and resilience which are qualities that we aim to develop in the girls.

The girls had clearly worked very hard under the musical direction of Mrs Howell and Miss Robinson, the show’s producer to whom we give enormous thanks. Of course, large scale productions always include a team of people and we are extremely grateful to Mr Skilbeck for arranging the musical score and to all the music staff who were fully involved, Prep School staff who worked tirelessly behind the scenes and to Mr Berman and the Tech Team of girls.
The girls will hopefully have built a wealth of memories from working together on this project which will stay with them for many years to come.
Huge congratulations to cast and crew!
