House Bake-Off Update – 2020

Senior School | Sixth Form

12 June 2020

This week is traditionally House Bake-Off and we haven’t let the lockdown stop us! In fact, quite the opposite, we’ve made it the theme of this year’s competition! The biggest thing we’re all missing (especially the judges) is the opportunity to taste the fantastic bakes being submitted.
Well done to Sophia Yaqoob who won Monday's Year 7 round for St Andrew. The judges loved the ‘cupcakes of hope’ she baked which were decorated with rainbow colours to show support for the NHS and edible flower petals to represent the spring. Second place went to Gracie Roberts from St. Patrick.

The standard of the entries from Year 8 was again very high and the judges had another difficult job on their hands on Tuesday. May Hadley from St. David won with her batch of beautifully decorated biscuits celebrating the heroes working in the NHS. Second place was awarded to Olivia Casey from St. Francis.

Saba Mansouri won the Year 9 round for St. Andrew. She baked a quarantine-themed, fresh cream rainbow cake designed with melted chocolate. She also added cute little icing stars which fitted in with the rainbow cake theme.  Second place went to Maddy Carey from St. Francis.

Year 10 were challenged to bake and decorate a Gateau fit for Captain Tom. We had a tie for first place between Davina Jagpal from St. George and Indira Jagpal for St. Patrick. Davina made a frozen gateau with homemade mint choc chip, and vanilla with cherry ice cream, decorated it with fruits. Indira's had a chocolate base to represent the ground on which Captain Tom walked and a marbled rainbow top layer to represent the NHS.

Well done to all competitors, the amount of work you have all put in to your entries is phenomenal!

We are now half way through the competition, with the Year 11, Sixth Form, House Captain and Staff cakes still to be judged.

The overall half-time scores are as follows:
St. Andrew     15
St. Patrick     12.5
St. Francis     12
St. David     11
St. George     9.5

So it’s still all to play for with every house still in the running to win.
Well done to all competitors and finalists! We are looking forward to the rest of the competition and the final results next week.
