Girls, boys and gingerbread

Preparatory

13 December 2019

Last Thursday, Year 1 girls at EHS welcomed the boys from West House School to a morning of activities involving the traditional tale, ‘The Gingerbread Man.’

The boys and girls enjoyed hearing the original version of the traditional tale before being asked to create a character to re-enact the story with a Christmas twist.
Children had to choose between Father Christmas, Mrs Claus, Santa’s little elf helpers, Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer or, of course, The Gingerbread Man. They crafted their character, making a headband before innovating the original story with their new Christmas characters.

Some decided that Mrs Claus would bake the gingerbread, with the greedy reindeer gobbling up the poor Gingerbread Man at the end of the story, while others decided that Rudolph would be the baker with Father Christmas deciding he was hungry at the end.

Everyone enjoyed eating a real gingerbread man for their snack!

The boys and girls enjoyed working together to re-enact their stories. Lots of fun was had by all and it was a fabulous way to start the school Christmas festivities.
