Year 13 Leavers Head for Exciting Futures

Sixth Form | Parents

18 August 2022

We congratulate the Class of 2022 on their outstanding results at A Level. Despite the challenge of the last two years and missing out on sitting examinations at GCSE, they have achieved significant success, going on to study a wide range of degree courses at some the UK's top universities.

We are delighted that 90% of students will be heading to their university of choice, with destinations including Birmingham, Kings College, Oxford, York and Warwick. In a striking show of the breadth and range of interests of our Year 13 leavers, students will be studying an array of courses including Classics (Oxford) to Japanese Studies (Newcastle), Economics (Reading), Mathematics (Birmingham), Mechanical Engineering (Lancaster) and several medical-related degrees.

The collective results contain outstanding academic achievements by individual students. A keen historian will read Ancient, Medieval and Modern History at Durham; leveraging her aptitude for technology, a member of the school’s Technical and Lighting Crew is going on to study Aerospace Engineering; and a highly accomplished music scholar will add another string to her bow by embarking on a degree in Law.

Reflecting on the achievement of this year’s leavers, Edgbaston High School Headmistress, Clare Macro, commented: “Having missed out on the experience of sitting their GCSE exams in 2020 and two very turbulent Covid-impacted years, this summer’s A Levels were always going to be particularly challenging for Year 13 students. Within this context and in line with the school’s ethos, we have given strong support to this cohort not just academically, but also in terms of providing the robust pastoral care and commitment to their wellbeing that we are known for. On behalf of our students, I would like to thank the dedicated team of teaching and non-teaching staff who have contributed to the girls’ success.

“We send Year 13 our warmest congratulations. Our pupils never fail to amaze me with their incredible attitudes and I have been impressed with their hard work and dedication. In true EHS spirit they have applied themselves with maturity and tenacity, skills that will stand them in good stead as they head out into the world. They should go forward with confidence in their own abilities, knowing they are equipped with the academic results, resilience and determination to succeed wherever their ambition takes them. We hope they are as proud of themselves as we are of them.”
