Author Visit Brings Book to Life

On Monday 20 March, girls in Reception and Year 1 welcomed a special visitor to EHS. We were lucky enough to have been given the opportunity by The Bookshop on the Green at Bournville and Puffin Books to meet author Farhana Islam. Farhana is a debut picture book author and primary school teacher.
Her debut book, ‘Not Now, Noor!’ is a heart-warming story for young children about why Muslim women wear headscarves. It is playful and fun and helps to explain Muslim women’s cultural identity in a really accessible way.
Farhana began the workshop with an interactive telling of her story which the girls could also see on the big screen. They really enjoyed the story and then watched a draw-along video from the illustrator of the book, Nabila Adani, who lives in Indonesia. They were all busy following the directions to create their own version of Noor, the main character.
Many of the girls bought a copy of the book signed by Farhana and we are sure they will enjoy reading it many times.
This was an exciting opportunity for the girls to meet the author of a book which has only just been released and we would like to thank The Bookshop on the Green and Puffin books for giving the girls this chance.
