Women and Feminism through the lens of Islam - these were the insightful headline discussions at the most recent instalment of our ‘EHS Talks’ series.
An esteemed Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of Birmingham, our speaker Dr Haifaa Jawad has been a member of the Department of Theology and Religion since 2001 and holds a number of visiting positions and fellowships including in 2019 a research fellowship from Istanbul Sehir University, Turkey.
Dr Jawad appeared via zoom to discuss women and Islam, as well as the portrayal of Islam in the media. We were delighted to see a wide range of students from across all year groups in attendance, many of whom posed thought-provoking questions to Dr Jawad, demonstrating their understanding and interest in the complex issues at play.
We thank Dr Jawad for her generosity in speaking to the girls. The next talk in the ‘EHS Talks’ series will take place at the end of this half term, details in due course.
