World Read Aloud Day

Preparatory

09 February 2024

Wednesday 7 February was the 15th annual World Read Aloud Day, and girls from EHS Prep School joined millions of people from around the globe in over 173 countries to celebrate the power and joy of reading aloud.

Pupils from Reception, Years 1 and 2 gathered for assembly in the Prep School Hall to celebrate this special day.  Mrs Hartley, wearing her dressing gown and slippers, settled down to introduce some of her favourite books to read aloud.  She then read 'The Snail and the Whale' using lots of different voices, actions and facial expressions.  The girls enjoyed the adventure travelling around the world with the two unusual friends.

Reception then joined Year 1 girls in their classrooms to share more stories.  The Year 1 girls had brought in some of their favourites from home to read to Reception girls who enjoyed listening and who were impressed by the older girls storytelling skills.

3K marked the day in a slightly different way.  They have been reading ‘The Owl Who Was Afraid of the Dark’ aloud as a class and they put characters from the story in the hot seat and challenged them to answer some questions.

We hope the girls are inspired to read aloud with families at home.
