Team EHS are Dragon Boat winners!

14 June 2019

On Saturday 8 June, staff from the Senior School took to the waters of Edgbaston Reservoir to take part in the Birmingham Dragon Boat Race.

Organised by the Rotary Club of Edgbaston, the event involved teams from across the West Midlands including the Birmingham Boat Club and The Blind School.

The weather was appalling, both rain and freezing cold wind persisting throughout the day. Rain soaked but otherwise undeterred, a vocal crowd of supporters lined the water’s edge to admire the range of fancy dress outfits as the competitors summoned their strength to power the Chinese style longboats to the finish line.

We are pleased to report that the dire weather conditions could not dampen the EHS spirit! The Red and Blue EHS crews of staff, family and friends performed superbly throughout the rounds, an EHS boat winning in every heat that it took part in. The day was complete when EHS Red were victorious in the final and were crowned overall Dragon Boat Champions 2019! (Three years in the making!).

The school's involvement in the race was spearheaded by Senior Teacher Lara Batchelor. She said, “We are absolutely delighted to have won the title this year! This is our third year competing; it’s a great team-building activity and a great way to support those charities that are close to our hearts. We are privileged to be able to support both the Birmingham Children’s Hospital’s ‘Out to Play’ appeal and Little Hearts Matter through the race, and have almost reached our fundraising target.”

Congratulations to Team EHS and to all competitors who took part in this fun and worthwhile event. Contact Mrs Batchelor if you wish to make a donation: batchelor@edgbastonhigh.co.uk
