Thank you for the Music

Preparatory

21 June 2019

Monday evening was spent enjoying the Prep Summer Concert. This event featured the variety of ensembles available to Prep girls with performances from each group. It was a true celebration of their hard work and achievements throughout the year.

We enjoyed the rousing start from Prep Orchestra, which played St. James Infirmary and The Medallion Calls. The performances went from strength to strength with pieces from String Group, Guitar Ensemble, Flute Group and both Junior and Senior Prep Choirs.

It has become a tradition that the only solo performance at the Summer Concert is from the Prep Young Musician of the Year which this year was Millie in Year 6. She entertained us with a moving rendition of I Could have Danced All Night.

It was clear from the standard of every performance that Music in Prep is flourishing and that the girls thoroughly enjoy the opportunities open to them. Thanks were given to our Music Prefects, Sophia and Srilakshmi who have worked tirelessly since September helping at events and Assemblies.

Tribute was then paid to Mrs Howell, Prep Music Co-ordinator who is retiring from class teaching after 38 years at the school. The good news is that Mrs Howell will be continuing to teach individual piano lessons. She has ensured that events are enjoyable for the girls and well organised and we are grateful for the pattern she has left for us to follow.

Well done to everyone involved and I say a heartfelt, “Thank you for the Music.”
