Sporting Round Up

Senior School | Sixth Form

15 December 2023

Senior School sportswomen have had a fantastic term with successes across a whole range of sports. We are delighted to bring you this term's Sporting Round up.

EHS swimmers continue to shine at county, regional and national level. Our intermediate freestyle relay team consisting of Willow Bevan, Cleo Hayes, Tiffany Latham and Isla Batchelor qualified for the 65th ESSA Team Championships, finishing as the 22nd best team nationally. Congratulations to the girls.

Our U16 team were recently crowned champions at the prestigious Warwick 100s gala where they faced tough competition from schools such as Oundle and Bedford. Individual successes include:

- U16 Freestyle Relay: Winners
- U16 Medley Relay: Winners
- U16 Freestyle 2nd Place: Adela
- U16 Butterfly Winner: Olivia
- U16 Breaststroke Winner: Tiffany
- U16 Backstroke Winner: Willow
- U16 Individual Medley Winner: Isla

After a successful summer of swimming for Tiffany Latham at the British Summer Championships, she continues to go from strength to strength. Soon Tiffany will be competing in the National Winter Championships (short course) at Ponds Forge in Sheffield - you can do it, Tiffany!

It has been a busy term for our netball teams who have competed in an extensive fixture programme. Our Year 7s have enjoyed developing their skills and cementing playing combinations whilst a highlight for the Year 8s and 9s was the prestigious GSA Condover Tournament; a great time was had by all and both teams competed in thrilling goal-for-goal games. Our seniors have also experienced success this term, but more importantly they have become exceptional leaders to pupils in younger years. Spearheaded by Tea Ilic, Arriella Randall and Hannah Shutt, our Sixth Formers attend Prep training sessions, umpire fixtures and organise match day logistics; we really would be lost without them!

The team of the season is most definitely the Year 9s, who after a term of exceptional performances against schools such as Newcastle-under-Lyme and Kings High Warwick, were recently crowned county champions! They will compete in the regional round at the end of January and we wish them the best of luck.

Individual netball successes this term include:

Isla Batchelor - Severn Stars Nova Academy and Birmingham U15 County Academy
Anaiya Plaha - Severn Stars Nova Academy and Staffordshire U15 County Academy
Luccia Baldwin - Loughborough Lightning U16 Squad and Staffordshire U15 County Academy
Olivia Whittaker - South Staffordshire U15 County Academy
Erica Lockett-Yeung - Warwickshire U15 County Academy
Cora Batchelor - Birmingham U13 Development Squad

Hockey continues to gather momentum with our senior teams leading the way. Captained by Maia Kanagaratnam and Sanjana Raghavendran, the 1st VII have grown in strength and technicality. They have performed exceptionally and continue to maintain depth in numbers; this team certainly enjoy the camaraderie! Hockey Club is also well-attended by pupils in younger years and they have enjoyed implementing their skills into match play against schools such as RGS Dodderhill. Many of the players have made the transition to club level hockey at Harborne, Edgbaston and Sutton Coldfield; we looking forward to seeing their progress!

Individual hockey successes this term include:

Sanjana Raghavendran - County Hockey
Maia Kanagaratnam - County Hockey

I am delighted to announce that the EHS cricket programme has once again been awarded ‘Highly Commended’ in the national ‘Cricketer Schools Guide’ magazine; an achievement we are extremely proud of. This term girls have been training hard in preparation for the Winter Indoor League where we are hoping to build on last year’s success by reaching county finals at Edgbaston Cricket Club.

Individual cricket successes this term include:

Milly Cross - Warwickshire U13 County Squad
Sanskriti Saxena - Warwickshire U13 County Squad
Hafsa Najib - Warwickshire U13 County Squad
They follow in the footsteps of our senior cricketers such as Ishmah Mir and Isabel Curry.

Individual Successes

This term, more girls than ever have sought opportunities to get involved and participate in sport and dance, both inside and outside of school. It is our mission to inspire a lifelong love of physical activity and so we love to celebrate our pupils’ successes, no matter how big or small.

Star Ehiogu - Junior Speed Climbing Champion
