Sparkle and Shine: Senior Ensembles Concert

Senior School | Sixth Form

08 December 2023

Pupils from the Senior School presented their annual ensembles and soloist concert, ‘Sparkle and Shine’ in the Octagon last Thursday, 30 November.  The event included the school’s large and Chamber ensembles as well as a series of solos presented by Music Scholars and GCSE and A level pupils.

The concert opened with a movement from the ever popular ‘Seasons’ by Vivaldi before a complete change of tone with Andrew Lloyd Webber’s overture to ‘The Phantom of the Opera’.  The Choirs presented a mixture of material that was both secular and Christmas themed. We also heard two entirely new compositions created for the flute ensemble created by our flute teacher, Miss Jones.

The second half started with a massed vocal item from Year 7 and 8 called ‘Holiday Favourites’ featuring well-known Christmas melodies such as Frosty the Snowman and Rudolf the Red Nosed Reindeer.  Solos by Grace (Year 7), Gracie, Samara, Charis (Year 11), Shanya, Lily X, Lily B, Maia, Siena (Year 12) and Amelie (Year 13) were a real treat and were performed to a professional level in all instances.

The final performance included all of the instrumentalists and singers in a performance of the uplifting ‘Sparkle and Shine’ from the Nativity on Tour.

What a wonderful evening full of superb music performed to the highest standards, congratulations to all involved and sincere thanks.
