We are constantly amazed by the high quality of work produced by pupils of all ages here at EHS. In recognition of that talent and hard work, each term teachers are asked to nominate outstanding or excellent work to the Excellence Book. This term, we have once again seen work of an extraordinarily high calibre produced by girls in every year and across a range of subjects. Congratulations to the following students:

ART

Renée Henry (Year 9)

For an exquisite drawing of a snail. The detail is fine and draws you in.

Norehan Elkhazin (Year 8)

For an exceptional drawing of a pepper, showing impressive handling of coloured pencils.  Norehan captured the depth of tone in the recesses of the pepper. Fantastic!

CLASSICS

Fleur Mawdesley

For her submission to the Classical Myth Competition.  Fleur won for her wonderful Myth of the Medture telling the story of how a no-nonsense woman impressed Zeus.

CLASSICAL GREEK

Anula Oates (Year 10)

For completing extension work in prose composition, writing from English into Classical Greek to an outstanding level.

ENGLISH

Emma Burns, Renée Henry, Siena Henry, Maia Kanagaratnam (Year 9)

An excellent English video on the play ‘The Merchant of Venice’. The video conveyed the energy, enthusiasm and excitement of the actors and was put together so well.

Alyzah Hussain (Year 7)

For an outstanding piece of creative writing.  Alyzah imagined Duncan’s (from Macbeth) murder scene. She managed to convey a deep sense of foreboding with her language and sentence construction.

Ayesha Bajwa (Year 8)

For a wonderfully evocative and atmospheric poem entitled ‘Island Girl’.

Aleeha Rashid (Year 9)

For writing a diary entry using the voice of Don Pedro from ‘Much ado About Nothing’. She reflected his perspective and thoughts about other characters in a thoughtful and interesting way.

Indira Jagpal (Year 11)

For entering the Young Writer’s competition with her poem ‘The Person Who Forgot’. Indira’s poem was selected to be published in the anthology entitled ‘Through Their Eyes’.

Charlotte Linford (Year 9)

For an outstanding essay on how Golding presents the darkness of a man’s heart in the novel, Lord of the Flies. Charlie showed great insight and understanding of the novel and could draw on cross-curricular connections. A nuanced and perceptive piece of writing.

Aleeza Ebrahim (Year 8)

For her creative writing, and especially for using her imagination and initiative.

Ecaterina Dima (Year 9)

For excellent analysis and exploration of a poem, writing some way beyond her years.  Ecaterina had also written some excellent poems on her own.

Karisham Mangal (Year 9)

For her excellent progress in English this year and for her extended writing on the ‘Poem at Thirty-Nine’.

FOOD & NUTRITION

Imaan Ahmed (Year 11)

For creating delicious and eye-catching dishes for her GCSE Food practical.  Mouth-watering!

Isabel Jones (Year 11)

For her mouth-watering culinary creations for her NEA mock practical work.

Karishma Mangal and May Hadley (Year 9)

For developing their technical cooking skills for the Skills Section of Bronze D of E.  Both girls worked hard to improve their baking and cooking proficiency and the end results were stunning.

Aisha Ghauri (Year 10)

For outstanding work on how the science of proteins can be applied to cooking.  The information was displayed in any eye-catching way and was incredibly in depth.

GEOGRAPHY

Layla Majid (Year 8)

For her Water Cycle Rhapsody. Layla set the Water Cycle process to the music of Bohemian Rhapsody and performed it in her excellence book meeting.

Yang Zhang (Year 8)

Wrote and performed a wonderful Water Cycle song that tracked the journey of a droplet of water in a beautiful and emotional way.

Alice Coles, Daisy Drake, Phoebe Hughes (Year 8)

For writing an excellent Water Cycle song and setting it to music. They not only sang it in front of their class but to Mrs Macro also.

HISTORY

Tiffany Latham (Year 7)

For an exceptional model of a Motte & Bailey Castle. It really does have to be seen to be believed.  Tiffany’s model included the castle, dwellings, people, trees and even a well.

Sana Mirza (Year 7)

For her creative thinking in producing a Motte & Bailey Castle.  Using a rug, cardboard and block for the well. Sana was able to create an authentic depiction of this kind of castle.

MODERN FOREIGN LANGUAGES

FRENCH

Anula Oates

For an excellent French result and for consistently seeking to improve herself in the language.

Anya De

For an excellent paragraph in French using an impressive range of vocabulary and grammatical structures.

GERMAN

Lucy Coleman (Year 8)

For achieving an excellent result in her German writing assessment.

Fleur Mawdesley (Year 8)

For achieving an excellent result in her German assessment,

     

SPANISH

Jaikirit Bindra, Poppy Couzens (Year 9)

For writing lengthy holiday pieces using a wide range of vocabulary and different tenses accurately.  Both girls had also presented their work beautifully.

Kate Stockton (Year 8)

For an outstanding piece of homework in Spanish describing her plans for next week.  She produced a piece of more like GCSE standard than that of a Year 8 pupil.

PE

Jemima Jackson (Year 10)

For her outstanding effort in Race for Life 5k. Jemima

RS

Kate Stockton (Year 8)

For going above and beyond in producing a powerpoint on the interior of a Church of England that was not part of the homework task. Kate’s ability to use powerpoint impressed the department so much that her powerpoint is now a departmental resource.

SCIENCES

BIOLOGY

Nature Okah, Sana Mirza and Tiffany Latham (Year 7)

For outstanding and creative model of cells made from clay and cardboard. All three models are informative and eye-catching.

PHYSICS

Addison Byrne and Ayesha Bajwa (Year 8)

For clear and informative posters on the ‘Si Nan’ Compass.  Both girls followed the criteria and applied a great deal of effort to their work.

Emma Burns and Siena Henry (Year 9)

For excellent Physics extension work on Greenhouse Gases, depletion of the Ozone, and global warming.  The work showed plenty of evidence of research beyond the Curriculum.

Pavi Venkataramaiah, Tania Aswan, Poppy Couzens (year 9)

For excellent work on Fossil Fuel problems.  Great diagrams, clear explanations and good detail.

Prithi Das, Sophie Kim, Laiba Salman, Milly Mayo and Indira Jagpal (Year 11)

For outstanding test result in a Physics Assessment.

D&T TEXTILES

Layla Majid (Year 8)

For knitting a patchwork cardigan independently and learning how to sew the patches together to make a cardigan through YouTube tutorials.

OTHER

Norehan Elkhazin (Year 8)

For showing initiative and helping spread a little cheer and happiness through a random act of kindness.  Norehan sent a card to very poorly children in hospital to help brighten their day.

Alyzah Hussain (Year 7)

For entering a poetry competition of her own accord in order to push herself and come out of her comfort zone.  Her poem was selected for publication and Alyzah is justifiably proud of this.

Davina Jagpal (Year 11)

For her contribution to a debate on whether independent school should exist. Davina expressed the points in her persuasive way.

Alyzah Hussain (Year 7)

Study Skills – for creating a fabulous powerpoint on earthly phenomena as part of her Study Skills lesson.  She includes amazing images, just the right amount of information and delivered it in a confident and engaging manner.

Sabiha Sattar-Mohammed (Year 8)

For creating a social media post to highlight the dangers of the environment of using Palm Oil in so many products.
