Carol Service marks the end of term

Senior School

13 December 2019

On Wednesday, Senior School pupils, staff and friends of EHS gathered to mark the festive period with an uplifting Carol Service held at St George’s Church. With not a seat spare, the occasion was an opportunity for the school community to come together ahead of the season’s celebrations.

After a warm welcome from church representative Mrs Jenny Uff, the Christmas message was conveyed through the traditional service of Lessons and Carols, eloquently read by pupil representatives from each year group: Nikita Basandrai, Indira Jagpal, Carmen Sanchez Diamente, Emma Burns, Gracie Herbert, Umaima Mughal, Zoe Souter and Lucy Atkins. Deputy Head Girls Zaineb Al-Ani and Lydia Diwakar played a key role in proceedings, delivering a number of poems and lessons, before Mrs Macro’s closing reading of St John I’s lesson.

The service of well-loved carols and hymns was enhanced by interludes from the school’s choirs. Between them, Senior and Chamber choirs sung a varied repertoire and delighted the congregation with their sound and poise, performing ‘I Sing of a Maiden’, ‘Lulla, Lulla, Lullay’, and Elgar’s ‘The Snow’.

We offer our thanks to St Georges Church for a hosting this annual service and to the Music Department and Mr Gray in the English Department for all their hard work. A fittingly festive end to the Autumn Term!
