Pupil shortlisted in The Word competition

Senior School

15 November 2019

Congratulations to Stephanie Kail who has been shortlisted for ‘The Word Poetry Competition’ organised by Lichfield Cathedral as part of their forthcoming poetry festival.

Stephanie entered, along with the rest of her Year 9 English group, back in September. Students were asked to write on the theme of awe and wonder and they produced poems on a wide range of subjects including the miracle of birth, climate issues and the solar system! The organisers informed us that they received over a thousand entries across the age groups, so Stephanie’s success was certainly impressive. When I read the confirmatory email in class I was also delighted by the spontaneous applause and pleasure that the rest of the class showed for Stephanie’s achievement. I thought all their poems were excellent, so I should probably start looking for more competitions for them to enter!

Stephanie’s poem ‘Sometimes I Wonder’ will now be included in an exhibition at Lichfield Cathedral and she is going to be invited to a prize giving event where the overall winners will be announced.
