Prep's Language Challenge Champions!

Preparatory

14 June 2024

On Wednesday 12 June, Isabella H, Sofia ML and Jessica H (Year 5), Gurbani and Emily P (Year 4) and Jashvita, Layyan and Haya M (Year 3) took part in the live final of the national Junior Language Challenge.

The girls had taken on German and Italian and finally Jèrriais (Jersey French) before finishing in the top 30 in the country and qualifying for the live final. This set a new record for EHS with eight Prep girls qualifying.

In the final the girls had to answer multiple choice questions about words and phrases in Jèrriais as well as ordering sentences and spelling Jèrriais words from memory. There was even a live link with a lady in Jersey itself!

Many children in the final were much older and more experienced, but that did not deter our valiant Prep girls. It was very intense to observe as those at the top of the leaderboard changed position from one question to the next throughout.

The final result was that Isabella came 1st, Gurbani finished 2nd, Haya 4th and Jessica 5th. Emily and Jashvita also finished in the top 10. We can now shout about having six of the top young linguists in the country in Prep at EHS!

We are immensely proud of all of the girls who entered the competition and particularly the way our finalists conducted themselves in the final. They are true ambassadors for Prep.

As they say in Jèrriais - Félicitations! (Congratulations!)
