This week has seen us focus on two very important topics in our assemblies. One of these was keeping safe online when we marked Safer Internet Day, February 8, using material produced by the UK Safer Internet Centre. This year’s theme was ‘All fun and Games? Exploring respect and relationships online.’  The two age appropriate assemblies for our girls from Kindergarten to Year 6 gave much food for thought, and are available for parents to watch with their daughters at home.

The second topic was focusing on how we can be happy showing kindness to ourselves and others.  This was to highlight Children’s Mental Health Week on the theme of ‘Growing Together.’  We regularly encourage the girls to remember they need to think about both their physical and mental health.  We hope they found the top tips helpful.
Our Celebration Assembly also gave opportunity to say well done to our Year 1 and 2 girls and to our Rookie swimmers who have been successful in Grades 1, 2 or 3. There were also certificates for Independent Learning for girls who have taken part in the current challenges.  Well done to all.

There were some exciting highlights this week for Year 6. The girls were given their individual parts for the production of Pirates of the Curry Bean to be performed at the end of March. The first group of girls had the opportunity to visit the Graphics Studio to work with Senior Staff and Students on an interesting project. Then everyone received replies to the letters they had written to children at a school in Rue, in France.  Their letters, sent before Christmas, had described themselves to their penpals and they were delighted to hear back. They are now preparing another letter and are looking forward to the opportunity to speak to their new friends via a video link. Formidable!

Science has given girls a wealth of opportunities in various year groups this week.  Year 1 have been body detectives, learning about the heart and lungs and their jobs. They used the virtual T shirt, some interactive aprons and stethoscopes to help their learning.

In Year 3, in the topic on Forces they investigated the force in a rubber band using a car catapult experiment. They discovered that the car travelled further each time they increased the force in the rubber band.

Teachers in Westbourne and Years 1 and 2 have enjoyed meeting parents this week and we look forward to meeting, over Zoom with parents of girls in Years 3 – 6 after half term.  This will take place in week beginning 14 March.

Next week we hope Year 5 parents will enjoy the Class assemblies and we wish our Year 4 girls well in The Big Dance Off competition on Wednesday.
