Prep Celebration of World Languages

Preparatory

30 September 2022

On Monday 26 September, Prep girls and staff celebrated Languages Day in the form of an assembly. As part of the day, the girls learnt greetings in languages such as Greek, Dutch and Bosnian in their year groups.

The celebration was extended further to encompass the many languages of the world that are spoken by Prep girls at home or that are being learnt as a leisure activity. We established that Prep girls speak a total of 30 different languages other than English and many girls are bi-lingual or even multi-lingual. Such an amazing attribute!

Our assembly shared a multitude of greetings, poems and songs in languages ranging from Urdu, Punjabi and Hindi to the more unusual Telugu, Tamil, Marathi and Patois. We were also treated to some Russian, Indian and Irish dancing.

All girls took great delight in participating and the assembly has inspired many to research a language of their choice for our poster competition. What a diverse, talented and inquisitive group of girls we have in Prep. Bravo!
