The girls have clearly been enjoying their learning this week which has included a broad range of subjects across the curriculum.  They have also relished playing together in the early autumn sunshine.

In Westbourne, the girls in Kindergarten have had fun with the letters in their names and have made a good start on their learning to read journey.  Meanwhile Reception have been transported to France with the help of Tilly as they begin learning another language.  Making and tasting stir fry gave many  a new food experience and they added one more fruit with enthusiasm in their healthy number work.  They have also found some time to relax in the Library enjoying some favourite and new books.

Science lessons have offered girls the opportunity to explore interesting topics. Year 2 girls have studied the sense of sight and created a collage of an eye which they then labelled.  Year 4 debated if some 'tricky to classify' substances were solids or liquids. A firm favourite was playing with ooblek.

Food processing and packaging and different methods of farming have been the Geography topic of the week in Year 5. Their challenge has been in line with recycling week as they have been investigating non-plastic forms of packaging.

Shape and colour have also been much in evidence during the week as 5E have been learning about Cubism and have begun to experiment with their own designs using fragmenting as well as choosing to use contrasting or tonal colours.  Year 3’s shape work has been linked to their Mathematics study of 3D shapes. Their challenge was to construct a range of 3D shapes and use the correct mathematical terms to identify the properties of the shape.

Our Celebration Assemblies give us the chance to share in the wide range of interests and the achievements of our girls.  We have congratulated Holly on the award of her Blue Peter badge for cricket and Avani for her efforts in Taekwondo. There have also been Music certificates for Davica and Amaya and we have enjoyed Grace’s performance on the flute as she was our Morning Musician of the week.  Her performance of Twinkle, Twinkle was fitting with the stars we had to congratulate.

Huge congratulations to all on our recent LAMDA results with 96% of girls receiving a Distinction.  We had over 120 children who took an exam at the end of the Summer Term in Solo, Speaking Verse and Poetry, Reading for Performance, Speaking in Public from Levels 1 – 3.  A great achievement that we are all very proud of!

This week also saw the announcement of our Year 6 posts of responsibility. We are looking forward to hearing the ideas they have to contribute to their roles, which are many and varied. We congratulate Eliza, Kavya and Anna on their appointments as Head and Deputy Head Girls, as voted for by their peers.  We know that the year group will represent us well and will contribute much to the life of the Prep School.

Mrs Sally Hartley
Head of Preparatory School
