Millie Wins First Girl in Midlands Sailing Series

Senior School

21 January 2021

Earlier in the year we heard that year 8 pupil Millie had made it into the Royal Yachting Association Regional Squad in the Topper class of sailing boat. This opportunity provided her with 6 training weekends and access to some of the best coaches in the sport. The training is designed to make the sailor competitive when sailing in regional ‘Open Events’ and the larger ‘National Series Events’. Due to Covid 19 the National Series was, and continues to be cancelled for the foreseeable future, however 2 of the 4 Open Events were sailed with a total of 7 races completed. The final Open Event was scheduled for January but has now been cancelled so the Midlands Topper series results were awarded on the 2 events sailed and we are pleased to say that Millie came 7th overall and was awarded the prize for 1st girl in the series.

Millie did manage to get 2 training weekends completed in December and even raced on Boxing Day. She will now have to wait until March for the next scheduled training and the start of the next sailing season – lets hope that can go ahead as planned.

Well done to Millie and keep up the good work!
