The Notebook – by Nicholas Sparks – Romance (Suitable Year 9+)
Set amid the austere beauty of the North Carolina coast, The Notebook begins with the story of Noah Calhoun, a rural Southerner recently returned from the Second World War. Noah is restoring a plantation home to its former glory, and he is haunted by images of the beautiful girl he met fourteen years earlier, a girl he loved like no other. Unable to find her, yet unwilling to forget the summer they spent together, Noah is content to live with only memories...until she unexpectedly returns to his town to see him once again.
Like a puzzle within a puzzle, the story of Noah and Allie is just the beginning. As it unfolds, their tale miraculously becomes something different, with much higher stakes. Miss Lee’s Comments: If you ever wanted a complicated, dramatic romance then this is the perfect book. There are all kinds of twists and turns and… I won’t spoil the ending. There’s also the film to watch afterwards!
Heartstopper Vol. 1 + 2 – Romance / LGBT (Suitable for all years)
Charlie Spring is in Year 10 at Truham Grammar School for Boys. The past year hasn't been too great, but at least he's not being bullied anymore, and he's sort of got a boyfriend, even if he's kind of mean and only wants to meet up in secret.
Nick Nelson is in Year 11 and on the school rugby team. He's heard a little about Charlie - the kid who was outed last year and bullied for a few months - but he's never had the opportunity to talk to him. That is, until the start of January, in which Nick and Charlie are placed in the same form group and made to sit together.
They quickly become friends, and soon Charlie is falling hard for Nick, even though he doesn't think he has a chance. But love works in surprising ways, and sometimes good things are waiting just around the corner...
Miss Lee’s Comments: An absolutely adorable romance between two very different boys. It is a graphic novel where the library currently has Volume 1 and 2, but due to popular demand, will quickly order Volume 3!
The Sun is Also a Star – by Nicola Yoon – Romance (Suitable for all ages)
Natasha: I’m a girl who believes in science and facts. Not fate. Not destiny. Or dreams that will never come true. I’m definitely not the kind of girl who meets a cute boy on a crowded New York City street and falls in love with him. Not when my family is twelve hours away from being deported to Jamaica. Falling in love with him won’t be my story.
Daniel: I’ve always been the good son, the good student, living up to my parents’ high expectations. Never the poet. Or the dreamer. But when I see her, I forget about all that. Something about Natasha makes me think that fate has something much more extraordinary in store - for both of us.

Miss Lee’s Comments: A romance novel that has a fantastic start, with funny, flawed and relatable characters that will instantly captivate you. Nothing in life is
simple, especially when it comes to love between these two characters, but you will root for them on every page of this book.
