Edgbaston High School is celebrating outstanding GSCE results once again. This year is the first year of the 9-1 grades and the first testing of the majority of the reformed GCSE examinations. We are delighted with the performance of our girls who worked exceedingly hard, along with their teachers, to cope with the complexity and level of detail in the new specifications. Our efforts have been rewarded with 20.3% of our results at Grade 9, which is the top of the old A* grade. The National Average for this grade is 4.0%.

Amongst the many individual successes of the day, there were some exceptional performances:

- Mandeep Karlcut obtained 11 GCSEs all at A* and 9.

- 22% of the cohort gained all A*/A or 7/8/9 grades.

As three subjects taken at EHS are in their final year of reform and are still graded A*- C, our summary is reported in both the new and old format. Overall results are as follows:

- A* -A or 7/8/9 = 61.6%

- B or 6    11.7%

- C or 5/4    21.7%

- Average subjects per pupil = 10 

- The pass rate is 95%

In addition to GCSEs, many girls in school benefit from the various independent learning and extension opportunities offered and we are delighted with the results achieved in these qualifications.  

Extended Project Qualification in the Sixth Form:

- A*  30%

- A  40%

- B  30%

Thinking and Reasoning Skills in Year 10:

- Merit         100%

The Higher Project Qualification in Year 9:

- A*  33%

- A  53% 

- B   13%

Dr Ruth Weeks said:" We are very proud of the achievements of all EHS girls and commend them and the staff for their hard work and commitment. The results are a great tribute to them, particularly in the light of the reforms which have certainly been harder in terms of content and the analytical skills required. We are therefore delighted with our results which contain an impressive percentage of Grade 9 results and clearly demonstrate that our girls are working at the highest level in many of their subjects. I look forward to welcoming our Year 11 girls into Year 12 in September and sharing in their continued success in the years to come.”
