Ethics Forum: Debating the Big Questions

Sixth Form

18 November 2022

Last Friday, Years 10 to 13 were treated to a special event in school. The EHS Ethics Forum is a Question Time style debate in which experts from law, religion and politics come together to discuss the pressing issues of the day.

This is the first forum that we have been able to schedule since 2019 due to the pandemic, and so it was fantastic to have everybody back in the Octagon again, and to view the debate in person. Our guests this year were:

•   Preet Gill MP - Labour
•    Cllr Alex Yip - Conservative
•    Rev Canon Becky Stephens
•    Lucy Barr - Specialist in Family Law

The students asked the panel a range of questions from the realms of politics, environmental issues, ethics, and of course, whether former health secretaries should be contestants on well-known reality shows.

The panellists provided insightful and detailed answers, as well as engaging in robust debate with one another. Many thanks to the other Birmingham schools who watched our live stream. It was a great event and we look forward to scheduling similar events in the future.
