Violet Makes Her Mark

Senior School

11 February 2022

Year 9 pupil and Junior Archer Violet was delighted to have been recently invited to attend a development day with a compound archery squad. These national talent development days are part of Archery GB’s preparation pathway for talented athletes who shoot a compound bow and are under the age of 18. She tells us more about her experience:

“I had a fantastic day and really enjoyed the variety of activities on offer. We did shooting in the morning and then a coaching session on how we could improve our technique. We also had a strength and conditioning session, working with weights to improve strength and stamina.”

Violet has practised Archery for five years, having loved it when she first tried the sport at an outdoor adventure centre eight years ago. She now belongs to the Bowbrook Archery Club near Upton Magna, Telford, where there is an indoor, outdoor, field, clout and junior range for her to hone her skills. She usually trains at her club at the weekend, and then does strength and conditioning and some release training at home once or twice a week to improve her technique.

The GB Development day was a real source of inspiration to Violet. “I really enjoyed the opportunity. The development programme is usually for older, more experienced archers than myself so I consider myself really lucky to have been given a chance to get involved. At the moment I am working towards the County Indoor competition and then will start to prepare for the forthcoming outdoor season, but in the future I am definitely going to try to work my way up the tiers of the GB development programme as I get older.”
