Showcase Illustrates Exceptional Standards

Senior School | Sixth Form

19 May 2023

The Senior School Art department put on a showcase assembly to celebrate all the amazing artwork that had been created by students so far this year. The assembly was a visual feast, with a wide variety of artwork on display, from paintings and sculptures to ceramics and digital art.

The work on display represented all year groups, from Year 7 to Year 13, and all three areas of the art department: fine art, graphic design, and textiles. This gave students the opportunity to showcase their skills in a variety of different mediums.

The topics of the artwork were just as diverse as the mediums used. Some students chose to focus on the natural world, creating paintings and sculptures of animals, plants, and landscapes. Others explored the theme of portraiture, creating self-portraits or portraits of friends and family, or the theme of identity, creating work that explored their own personal experiences and beliefs.

Some of the specific projects that were on display included:
•    Ceramic fossils: Students created ceramic models of fossils, using a variety of different techniques.
•    Pop art self portraits: Students created pop art self portraits, using bright colors and bold shapes.
•    Google Doodles: Students created their own versions of Google Doodles, the special illustrations that appear on the Google homepage to commemorate holidays and other special events.
•    Sixth Form work included traditional painting techniques as well as title sequences created in Adobe After Effects.

The art showcase assembly was a fantastic celebration of the talent and creativity of the students in the Senior School, and all of the students should be very proud of their achievements.
