This Week in Westbourne

Westbourne

07 October 2022

In our Discovery Den this week the focus has been on buildings. Girls have been given the opportunity of looking at iconic buildings around the world and of trying to draw them. There have been physical development building opportunities to try and houses to design for fairies with a focus on differing environments.

In Nursery the girls have continued their colour study with green as the colour of the week. They have mixed blue and yellow and have investigated a range of green items in the curiosity cube. Cutting and making cucumber sandwiches helped with physical development skills.

In Kindergarten this week the letter ‘t’ has been the focus. The girls have enjoyed learning some tennis skills inspired by a Wimbledon match being shown on the screen. The Tiger Who Came to Tea has been another inspiration for a range of mathematical and literacy activities and Teddy Bear Day saw the making of some delicious teddy toast. A marble run allowed the girls to design some tiger skin patterns too and tambourines and triangles added to playtime fun.

As part of their Religious Education lessons Reception have been learning about the Bible story of Noah's Ark. They were interested to find out that the story can also be found in the Qur'an and the Torah too. Girls carefully created their own examples of an ark with animals entering two by two. They even learned a new song to sing in assembly!

Next week, on Monday 10, the girls will join Prep in wearing yellow accessories in support of #HelloYellow day to show our support for the charity Young Minds.  We are also inviting girls to bring in dry goods such as cereal, tea, sugar, tinned items, pasta and similar for our Harvest Assembly on Friday.  The collection will be donated to Birmingham Crisis Centre.

We are also looking forward to meeting parents at our first individual parents’ evening of the year.
