Sun Shines on DofE Students

Senior School | Sixth Form

25 March 2022

Last Sunday saw seven staff and almost 60 EHS girls set off into the early morning for a day on the beautiful Malvern Hills. The day was warm, and sunny and a splendid success with all the groups achieving what they had set out to do.

The 11 Year 12 students who are undertaking their Gold DofE award were set off north of the hills and walked 20km to the most southerly point. It wasn’t all hard work though: as well as racing up and down the hills, it was amazing to watch a group of paragliders on the way and a stray football found in a field gave an opportunity for some respite from the arduous walk.

Meanwhile the Year 10 Silver girls walked 14km circular routes on the southern area of the hills. Less experienced than the Gold girls, but just as determined, they successfully navigated their route using their maps and compasses to arrive at the end point, tired but happy.

The series of day walks the girls have been doing this term are designed to prepare them for further practices and the final assessed expeditions that will be taking place in the coming months. Year 12 students will undertake their final practice Brecon Beacons Year 12 gold at the end of March and we look forward to hearing how they fare.

Well done to all girls!
