Prep Crowns Young Musician of the Year

Preparatory

01 March 2024

After weeks of auditions featuring over 40 musicians from across the Prep School the list of finalists was announced by Mr Skilbeck, Director of Music, in our Celebration Assembly.

The day of the competition finally arrived this week and the 17 finalists were very excited to compete, in the Octagon, in front of an audience of family and friends.

Our adjudicator for the event was Sara Wilander who was born in Sweden and started playing piano at the age of eight.  Aged 15, she made her debut as a soloist with the Sinfonia Classica of Brussels.  Sara has a fully international background and has participated successfully in Swedish, German, English and French competitions.  She is in great demand as a performer, and has appeared as a soloist, chamber musician and accompanist throughout Europe.

Sara had a difficult job ahead of her as our young musicians from Years 3 – 6 took to the stage but before the results were announced we were delighted to showcase the musical talents of two of our previous winners, Davica and Jessica, both in Year 5 who delighted us with performances on the piano and violin.

Sara then gave her results and selected a winner from each year group. We congratulate Robyn Shankawarlia from Year 3, Jessie Liu from Year 4, Eliza Meade from Year 5 and Lily Pugsley from Year 6.

Sara then announced our overall Prep Young Musician of the Year as Catie Tran from Year 6.

We would like to say a huge well done to all of our finalists who all gave confident and assured performances and thank you to Sara for joining us for the evening.
