In the Prep School we regularly reinforce the importance of safety. This week started with two assemblies focused on keeping safe in school.  It was clear from the girls’ responses that they have a good grasp of this important aspect of school life.

On Tuesday, we marked Winnie the Pooh Day which had been introduced at the end of last week.  The focus was on the value of friendship and being grateful for our friends. This is a topic that features strongly in the famous books.

We welcomed Year 3 parents into school on Thursday for a year group assembly.  The girls had collaborated in groups to create their own stories which they added description, feeling and actions to.  The final stage was to work on presentation skills before the performance of each story to parents.  It was clear that they had developed confidence, team cooperation and perseverance and we all enjoyed the morning of stories.

The assembly was also good chance to introduce storytelling week, which begins on January 30.  We hope that parents will share many of their favourite stories with their daughters during that week.

Visitors to our Prep School in Action morning this week really enjoyed seeing the girls engaged in their various lessons and the girls explained their learning activities clearly and with enthusiasm.  They spoke to parents and answered their questions with impressive confidence.

We have ended the week, in our Celebration Assembly, with a number of congratulations. We shared the new class representatives for the term and we were pleased to hear of Ava’s success recently in her swimming club presentation when she was awarded three medals.  We also awarded our Year 1 and 2 Well Done certificates and the last of the Monkey Board Independent Learning challenges. We have been delighted to receive so many pieces of work from the girls and are looking forward to the announcement of this term’s new challenge.

Another set of certificates was presented to girls in 2S and 2R.  They have had a 'battle' on Times Table Rockstars (TTRS) where they had to answer questions on the 2, 5 and 10 times tables. The girls were very enthusiastic and participated well.  The Battle lasted a week.  2R was awarded the trophy by TTRS as they had a higher average of getting the answers correct, and 2S got 100 more points than 2R.  So both classes are winners in different ways.  The certificates were for the top 3 girls from each class who earned the most points for their classes.  Well done girls on your hard work and enthusiasm.

Next week we are looking forward to netball fixtures, our first gala and to the school birthday assembly which is a good opportunity for the whole school to mark a special occasion.  We hope there will be cake!
