Preparatory

03 December 2021

Preparations are well under way for the end of term events. Seasonal crafts have been started, post boxes are awaiting cards and trees are being decorated.

We started the week with the official lighting of the outdoor tree, located on the terrace.  We are grateful, as ever, to the Parents’ Association for donating the tree for all girls and staff in school to enjoy.  Year 6 girls gathered with hot chocolate and warm cookies, on a very cold evening, to sing several seasonal songs and then to give the countdown to signal the lighting.  Our thanks to Year 6 for helping to make the event special.

Year 2, who have been working very hard on their production of ’The Magical Christmas Jigsaw,’ were delighted this week to perform two rehearsals for the girls in Prep and then the final show to their parents.

The girls have also found time to learn about quarter past and quarter to times. They used their carpet clock and some 12-sided dice to help them to practise making times on an analogue clock

We also enjoyed the Guitar Ensemble performances in our special assembly. The Prep School gathered in the Octagon, with the guitarists’ parents to enjoy a seasonal selection. There were performances from soloists and the whole ensemble comprised of girls from Years 3 – 6.

Year 4 are hard at work preparing for ‘A Tudor Christmas’ which they will perform for parents next week.  This presentation is building on the knowledge gained from their current History project and their visit to Selly Manor.

It is appropriate that trees have been a focus as this week is National Tree Week.  We have focused on this topic in assembly sharing information about the important role trees play in the environment and the physical and mental well-being benefits there are from having trees around us.  We were also able to share Supreeta’s tree that she made from recycled material following the COP26 assemblies recently.  This showed how important environmental issues are to many of our girls.

Supreeta was presented with a Headteacher’s certificate in our Celebration Assembly, as was Eleri for her fundraising efforts.  Eleri had performed chores around the house to raise some money for Guide Dogs for the blind.  Well done to both of the girls for their independent efforts.

We also presented our Well Done awards to Years 1 and 2 and a certificate for Grace in Year 2 who has passed her General Dance Primary Grade with Distinction.  Further certificates were present for interesting Independent projects for the Monkey Challenge.

We have enjoyed this busy week and are looking forward to further events and activities next week.  Keep up the good work girls!
