18 February 2022

As we approach half term we have enjoyed another busy week full of variety.  It began with assemblies from girls in 5D, 5E and 5F performed to parents.  The girls presented the fables they had written themselves in the form of short dramas.  Each class had voted for a small selection to be performed and everyone was involved.   The audience enjoyed the age-old morals told in new formats and with a range of more interesting characters.  We also admired the confidence, teamwork, writing, acting and presentation skills on show.

Our older girls in Years 5 and 6 have also enjoyed workshops in the Senior School Art Department during this week.  Year 5 extended their portraiture project by using charcoal to produce self-portraits and 6H visited the Graphic Art Studio to discover how to use Photoshop software.  Both groups of girls are eager to put their new skills to good use.

Year 4 girls have also been developing their presentation and language skills when learning about digital marketing.  They devised a marketing campaign and had to ‘sell’ their ideas to their sixth form clients! All groups were successful in gaining the business.

Wednesday provided a further opportunity for Year 4 girls when they travelled to the Alexandra Theatre to take part in The Great Big Dance Off having been selected for the regional heats.  Their ‘Matilda’ themed dance launched the show and set a high standard for those following.  It was a day filled with nerves and excitement, and many butterflies and was a great opportunity which we hope to repeat.

Geography has been a focus in Year 2 as they have been studying the characteristics of the four countries of the United Kingdom.  A highlight was when Eleri gave a presentation about Wales and treated everyone to a traditional welsh food, Welsh cakes. They were delicious!  They will be able to use their growing knowledge to celebrate the forthcoming St. David’s Day.

We also thank Mrs Boocock who is from Northern Ireland and who came to talk to the Year 2 girls about the Geography, History, culture and traditions of  the country such as popular foods!

We are grateful to Year 1 girls who welcomed Reception pupils to Prep this week.  They all enjoyed playing with equipment in the morning sunshine in the big playground. This is just one of a range of activities to help Reception girls to make a smooth transition to Prep in the new year.

As we approached the end of the week we considered our actions carefully on Random Acts of Kindness Day on Thursday.

We do hope that everyone enjoys the half term week and the range of activities available for Independent Learning.  These are the preparations for World Book Day and the History Cooking and Talk to the Animals challenges.  We are sure the girls will enjoy developing their skills.
