This week has begun with sporting success for a number of Prep girls.   On Monday afternoon, 11 Year 6 girls travelled to St Laurence Church School in Northfield for their fixture as part of the Birmingham Primary Schools Netball League. It was another convincing win. It is evident that confidence is growing amongst individuals and team spirit is soaring. The girls worked together brilliantly and showcased their excellent attacking and defending skills.

As the move to Senior School approaches in a few months Year 6 girls were given another opportunity to experience a second workshop in EHS Senior School.  This week they could join a Food and Nutrition session, a psychology or a Drama lesson.  This was then followed by ‘An Audience With EHS’ held in the Octagon giving girls the chance to hear more about Senior School from girls and staff.

In addition to our events this week curriculum highlights have included Year 3 investigating forces in their Science lessons.  They used a rubber band to propel a toy car.  Year 5 have worked on their clay faces and Year 4 on their Islamic clay tiles in the Art Studio.  Year 1 have been honing their ball skills in PE and Year 6 are well under way using green screen technology for their animation projects.

Year 3 also enjoyed their visit to our Prep Book Shop and seemed very happy with their new purchases.

In our assembly programme, girls were reminded about the importance of fairness with a focus on Fair Trade fortnight currently taking place.  Our Reception and Year 1 and 2 girls found out how polar bears are adapted to living in the harsh arctic climate on World Polar Bear Day.  We also covered Leap Year and discovered that two of our girls have a younger sibling born on Leap Day.  We hope he enjoyed his birthday with the next one being in four years!

Thursday brought our Prep Young Musician of the Year final and we celebrated the successes and wonderful performances of our 17 finalists in Assembly on Friday.  Well done to them all and especially Catie, this year’s recipient of the title.

Also in our Celebration Assembly Well Done certificates were awarded to girls in Years 1 and 2 and some Independent Learning awards for individual work in Geography for Zeenia Khan and Hana Aslam on our Challenge Board Zentangles for Ranye and Bella.

Mrs Eveleigh launched our British Science Week Challenge and girls were reminded about our World Book Day competition and our charity drive for Red Nose Day.   Miss Brown also announced the winners of the Year 4 Art Competition with congratulations to Jessie, Genevieve, Nusayba and Grace for their decorated shoes.

The week has ended with our EHSPA Prep Party for the first time since 2019.  What a great way to end a busy week and we look forward to welcoming parents to our Parents’ Evenings next week and to the cricket workshops for Years 1 – 4.
