We began the week with an opportunity for Year 5 and 6 girls to join Senior School Assembly for a continuation of Black History Month celebration. The girls heard the story behind the Beatles’ song ‘Blackbird,’ which was brought to life by Mr Smith’s singing. An inspirational start to the short week before breaking up for a half term break.

Even in a short week there was much work done and Year 3 particularly enjoyed investigating mass in Mathematics, using practical activities. They ranked containers lightest to heaviest, estimated and weighed items, tried to accurately weigh 500g of cubes and much more.

Year 2 have been learning about Guy Fawkes and the Gunpowder plot and worked well to follow instructions to create a guy. They also discussed how to stay safe near bonfires and fireworks. These lessons further extended their knowledge of the current History study.

Year 6 were delighted to receive a visit from the Nursery girls who were on an exploration of Prep. They enjoyed showing them the work they were doing on their iPads and talking to them about their classroom.

In After School Care, during the week the girls have enjoyed carving pumpkins and it was lovely to see the girls of different ages working together and encouraging each other. There were many delighted faces as the girls left carrying their glowing lanterns.

In this week’s Celebration Assembly on Tuesday morning we announced that we had raised over £300 by wearing pink at the end of last week. We also held the draw for our Courtesy Counts Awards winners. Well done to Meva Rao, Inaya Ishaq, Holly Robinson, Sofia Mendes Leite and Alice Low.

Our Challenges for half term were announced too and we hope the girls will enjoy the range of activities available. These will provide some distraction from the rather dull weather report.

We finished our school week with a reminder in assembly of the importance of kindness. We were also treated to a most enjoyable performance from some members of our Prep Flute Ensemble. Mr Pepper gave the girls some information about the song. ‘My Heart Will Go On,’ and the historic ship, The Titanic. The Ensemble received a huge round of applause and we are looking forward to hearing them playing again.

We hope that everyone enjoys the break and returns ready for the busy half term ahead.
