Dancers Bring Magic to Music Assembly

Senior School

03 December 2021

We look forward to our weekly Music Assemblies, where students can perform to their peers in the Senior School. Occasionally we invite guests to the school to perform for the students and on Friday the 26 November, professional ballet dancers Hamish Scott and Hannah Martin, joined by Mr J. Robson (pianist) performed choreography to the second movement of Shostakovich’s Piano Concerto No. 2. As we felt it may be unwise to take a large group of students to the theatre for our annual trip to the Nutcracker, it was lovely to welcome the dancers into school.

Both Hamish and Hannah are graduates of Elmhurst School for Dance. Hamish won bronze medal in the Genée International Ballet Competition, BBC Young Dancer of the Year Finalist and a competitor in the Cecchetti International Ballet competition. He has appeared in many famous ballets choreographed by the likes of Frederick Ashton, David Bintley, Peter Wright, John Cranko and Kenneth Macmillan. He has also worked with the film Director Adam Shankman in the Disney Film, Disenchanted.

Hannah received a bronze award from the Royal Academy of Dance in 2021, the Margot Fonteyn award, and was a semi-finalist in the BBC hit television show, The Greatest Dancer – she has also received prestigious awards for her choreography.  Away from dance, Hannah was also part of the Great British rhythmic gymnastics team and an athlete for team England in the 2018 commonwealth games on the Gold Coast.  Hannah has been awarded a total of 22 national titles in the British and English Championships.

Mr J. Robson graduated in performance from the Royal Northern College of Music and quickly established a performing career as a duo pianist.  He has performed at national and international music festivals and has engaged in numerous concert tours throughout Europe. John has adjudicated national and international examinations and competitions around the world. Within education, John has been House Master to the Choristers at Christ Church Cathedral school, Oxford, for the past decade.

I would like to extend my thanks to Hamish, Hannah and John for such a wonderful contribution to our Friday Music Assembly.

Mr K. Robson
Director of Music
