Nursery to Year Six Highlights

Preparatory

09 May 2025

It has been another busy week in Prep, filled with lots of exciting activities designed to inspire creativity, exploration and fun. Take a look at the gallery below for some of this week's pictures!

Circle Time

This week in Nursery, it has been all about circles. Pupils began by exploring circular objects from home, which the girls proudly brought in to add to our interactive table. It was fantastic to see their enthusiasm as they identified and discussed each item.  The girls got creative by making ‘circle babies’ using different sized circles—this was a great activity for developing fine motor skills and understanding of shape and size. Outdoors, pupils had lots of fun with parachute games, using the big circular parachute to play together and build teamwork.  Art activities included printing coloured circles using cups and tracing both small and large circles with pens and chalk. These activities supported mark-making skills and helped girls notice how circles appear all around them.  To end the week, girls made delicious, circle-shaped pizzas topped with circular toppings!

Kindergarten Girls Explore the Letter ‘q’ with a Royal Twist!

Our Kindergarten girls explored the letter ‘q’, with a fun royal theme. They learned about the sound ‘q’ makes in words like queen and quiet. They also looked at photos of Queen Camilla and the royal family. After reading The Queen’s Knickers, the girls had a great time designing their own colourful and creative royal knickers. It was a fun week of phonics, imagination and plenty of queens!

Creatures Great and Small

The topic in Reception this term is ‘Creatures Great and Small’ and the role-play area of the classroom has been transformed into a veterinary surgery. This area is proving to be very popular with the girls as they take their pets to the vet.  Girls have demonstrated their organisation skills as they assigned roles, gathered materials, and set up the space.  Using soft toys as patients, they arranged seating for a waiting area, created an examination table, and used books and pencils to take “patient” notes. They engaged in imaginative play, showing empathy by caring for the animals and communicating effectively with one another in their roles as vets, nurses, and pet owners. Girls completed their week by making colourful clay bowls and beds for their pet.  They even demonstrated their writing skills by making a personalised ‘Pet Passport’.  Well done, girls!

Australian Adventures

In Geography this term, our Year One girls are taking a journey around the world as they explore the seven continents. Last week, they discovered fascinating facts about France, and this week they are off to Australia! The girls have been enthusiastically sharing facts they have researched at home with their classmates. In Art, they tried their hand at Aboriginal-inspired artwork and even created their very own boomerangs.

Mapwork

Year Two have continued to develop their understanding of maps and plans in their Geography lessons.  They started their lesson working with a partner to follow a set of instructions that took them on a tour of the Prep grounds.  The vocabulary they had recently used in their Mathematics lessons helped them to follow the route back to the classroom where they then plotted it on a map.  The girls then improved the simple playground map by adding symbols to it and explaining these in a key.  They concluded the lesson by exploring Digimaps, which they have previously used to study both their local area and London, and plotting their route on a printout from the website.  Great geographical skills, Year Two!

Antarctic Explorers

Year Three have enjoyed learning about Antarctica as part of their Geography topic on the Polar Regions. They learned about penguins and the challenges these animals face due to climate change. The children explored what it might be like to visit Antarctica and dressed up in clothing suited to its extreme conditions. In Art, they carefully mixed paints to create stunning backgrounds for their penguin artwork.

Brilliant Boreatton Park Residential Trip

What a fabulous few days out in the countryside of Shropshire. The weather was beautiful, the grounds were amazing and all the pupils behaved fantastically . Our Year Four girls showed courage, teamwork and determination in the face of some scary zip wires, enormous giant swings and excellence in building rafts. The girls also displayed their creativity with singing round the campfire and everywhere we walked too! It was fantastic fun, with incredible memories made by staff and pupils alike.

Year Six Inter-house Netball

Year Six took part in their much-anticipated inter-house netball competition. After weeks of developing their skills over the course of the Spring term, the girls showcased fantastic teamwork and collaboration. Every match was played with determination and spirit, as each house demonstrated how far they have come in both their technical skills and their ability to work together. It was an incredibly close competition, with matches often decided by just a single goal. Congratulations to Curie House, who were crowned overall winners! Well done to all the teams for making it such an exciting and memorable event.
