The VE Day 80th year commemorations this week have been an opportunity for the entire EHS community to honour the British people who bravely defended our freedom so many years ago. We often forget how fortunate we are to live in a country which affords us so many freedoms and I am so grateful to Miss Deacon for leading such a special VE Day assembly on Thursday. Many of the veterans who have spoken about their experiences at the end of the war offer this excellent advice for embracing life: try to be the best that you can be; life is fun. Enjoy it.

I can confidently say that these sentiments have been in evidence across the Prep School this week. Our Year Four girls triumphantly returned from their residential trip to PGL Boreatton Park, full of tales of terrifying zip wires, remarkable raft-building, the ultimate test of nerve and joint decision-making with the giant swing and oodles of fun and laughter. The girls were blessed with glorious weather and it certainly feels as though they have returned to school walking a little taller!

On Tuesday, we welcomed Audrey Pantelis into school to lead an assembly about the Black Curriculum. The girls loved finding out about how influential the global majority have been on British history. Audrey is such an engaging speaker and we are delighted to have had the opportunity to work so closely with her to reflect upon and develop our History curriculum.

Exploration has been the theme across the school this week, with Year One immersing themselves in Aboriginal art, Year Two creating maps of the school grounds and Year Three exploring Antarctica! Year Five have enjoyed a week of exploration on their residential trip to Cranedale Field Studies Centre in Yorkshire and we cannot wait to find out about their adventures when they return to school on Friday night. Next week, bright and early on Monday morning, Year Six will be off to France for a week of cultural exploration and fun.

At EHS, our girls consistently strive to be the best that they can be; the smiles on their faces and the laughter that echoes down the corridors and across the playing fields reassures me that they are enjoying every moment. To the VE Day veterans, I can say with pride that at EHS Prep School, our girls are embracing every opportunity and we will be forever thankful to those who sacrificed so much, so many years ago, for our freedom.

Wishing you all a peaceful weekend.
