As we approach the end of this academic year the girls are busy completing projects and enjoying yet more new experiences.  It is clear how many of their skills have developed and how much more independent many of them are.

At the end of last week, the eco representatives rounded off a busy year with a picnic.  They had a picnic lunch at the playing fields and then enjoyed a visit to the school allotment.  We are proud of the work the girls have done to raise green issues in the Prep School.

It has been National Children’s Art Week with events around the country to introduce art to children. EHS girls are lucky as there are specialist art studios in both Prep and Senior School and they study the work of various artists in each year. These include Kandinsky, Klee, Mondrian, William Morris, Clarice Cliff and Monet. It was a therefore a very appropriate week for Year 3 to complete their Monet masterpieces. They experimented with mixing colours and then, without drawing, they recreated some of Monet’s works of art.  They have created some most effective forgeries!

During assemblies in this week girls have been thinking about the importance of art and how different feelings can be expressed through drawing and painting and emotions evoked through looking at the work of artists.  We looked at early cave paintings, art in religious buildings, famous portraits and autumnal landscapes.  The girls have also been encouraged to add any holiday work to our online gallery.

Year 1 girls have been able to express themselves in a different art form in After School Care when they wrote stories and then performed a puppet show to an appreciative audience.  They really enjoyed working together on this project.

In our Celebration Assembly this week, we congratulated our Year 1 and 2 girls on their Well Done certificates.  There were also awards for Sahib Sandhu who has taken part in All Stars Cricket Club and a Headteacher’s certificate for Isla Rae who created a book of Space facts she had researched.

We look forward to hearing about the Viking workshop for Year 3 and to Sports Day for girls from Nursery to Year 6, and to enjoying the last three days of term next week before breaking up for the holiday.  What a busy and challenging year!
