Macbeth Brought to Life

Senior School

14 October 2022

A quartet of professionally-trained actors visited EHS to deliver a powerful performance of Shakespeare's 'Macbeth' to the whole of Year 7 and GCSE Drama students in Years 10 - 11. The performance involved each of the four actors covering multiple roles from the play, and using instrumental accompaniment (cello, violin, percussion and other strange instrumental props) to great effect. The performance lasted for just over an hour and students were enthralled throughout.

Our students were then divided into four separate groups, each in a different location in the school. Each actor led their group through some expert dramatic techniques and routines, strongly linked to key moments, lines and characterisation from Shakespeare's eponymous play. The whole experience was inspirational; the students were glowing in their feedback. We hope to invite this theatre company in again - they have set periods during the year in which they do tours involving school students. Who knows - maybe this has sparked an interest in some of our Edgbastonians to go and do great things in the world of theatre!
