Linguists enjoy sights and sounds of Brittany

Senior School | Sixth Form

26 October 2018

An intrepid group of 59 girls and eight staff set off for Brittany at the crack of dawn on Tuesday 16 October. We were to have a glorious few days in this most beautiful and interesting region of France, enjoying the warm sunny weather and the delightful scenery.

A highlight of the visit was definitely the opportunity to learn about oyster farming in Cancale followed by the chance to sample the delicious oysters (at least, some of us found them delicious)! We also very much enjoyed the long anticipated visit to Bayeux to see the famous tapestry and it did not disappoint. The audio guides were very informative and we were able to understand and follow the details in each scene of the tapestry.

We spent the afternoon learning about the Battle of Normandy, which was fascinating, and the girls found the 360 cinema at Arromanches showing actual footage of the landings followed by a visit to the Peace Museum in Caen most absorbing and thought-provoking.

A personal favourite visit of the week was our morning spent at Mont Saint Michel. We had a really good guide who told us all about the history of this incredible structure and the girls bombarded her with questions.

The sunny weather also meant that the group were able to spend lots of time at the beach and everyone relished the chance to relax and enjoy the sea air.
I would like to thank the girls for making the trip such fun and the staff who accompanied us for their hard work and good humour.
