Dance Workshop Elevates Performance

Senior School

15 March 2024

A group of our KS3 and KS4 pupils had an amazing opportunity to work with the talented Midlands-based professional dancer, educator, and choreographer, Becky Knight.

Becky’s professional journey began at the Northern School of Contemporary Dance (NSCD) from 2014 to 2018, where she earned a First-Class BPA Hons Degree. Since then, she has performed both as a solo freelance and company dancer, including Motionhouse Dance Company, known for its exhilarating, physically charged works.

In recent years, Becky has developed a passion for teaching, travelling across the country to lead engaging dance workshops, focusing on contact and lift techniques.

The workshop started with an energetic warm-up, guiding the girls through various floor, and standing sequences to enhance their movement skills.

Next, the girls eagerly jumped into lift work, learning the roles of a base and flyer while focusing on safety and technique. There was a strong sense of teamwork as their precision and confidence increased with each lift. They then progressed to more challenging group lifts, culminating in the iconic ‘Dirty Dancing’ lift.

The girls left the workshop feeling empowered and accomplished, equipped with new skills and the confidence to pursue their dance aspirations.

A big thank you to Becky Knight for delivering such a fun, exciting workshop that inspired the girls and enhanced their skill set.
