Celebrating Black History Month

Senior School

04 November 2022

On Wednesday 19 October, the Year 13 Historians, as well as some volunteers from Key Stage 3 and 4, delivered an assembly for Black History Month.

The assembly focused on Malcolm X's visit to Smethwick just nine days before he was assassinated and his reasons for making this trip. It also explored how the ideas of Black Power spread outside of the US and influenced the actions of the UK branch of the Black Panther Party.

It was a fascinating opportunity to broaden not only our understanding of black history, but local history as well.
