A Haven for Study and Wellbeing

Senior School | Sixth Form

24 May 2024

Since September 2023, the Learning Hub has been a hive of activity. The new Silent Study area provides a space for all year groups to study and enjoy reflective escapism and beyond the study area, we offer a wide range of activities, events, and clubs for all year groups. With the introduction of a weekly timetable, students can access the Learning Hub during lunch to mingle with friends and collaborate with other year groups.

With wellbeing at the forefront, here is what the Hub offers:

  • Mindfulness Mondays: Enjoy mindful colouring to take away, breathing strategies, exciting reading recommendations, and a quiet working environment.
  • Challenge Tuesdays: Play board and card games, access mini quizzes, sudoku, word searches, and puzzles with prizes for correct completion!
  • Silent Study Wednesdays: The entire Learning Hub is dedicated to silent working. Use this time for homework, revision, or meeting with mentors. Mrs Coley also runs "In Stitches," a hand embroidery club for Years 7-9 to quietly work on something personal and crafty.
  • Take Away Thursdays: Borrow board games and puzzles for family game nights. Discover new reading recommendations, magazines, and colouring to take home. Mrs Coley sends a whole-school email with competition updates, recipes, words of wisdom, and wellbeing activities.
  • Fun Fridays: Participate in different activities each week, such as Cinema Club, crafts, British Sign Language, doodle pads, and Bingo. Excellence Book celebrations take place in the Nook with Miss Purewal, accompanied by Freddos! The Autism Girls Network meets with Mrs Stockdale to discuss neurodiversity and raise awareness.

If there is a day of special significance, then the Learning Hub takes the opportunity to celebrate and educate! Black History Month, Diwali, Christmas, Mental Health and Wellbeing, Eid, Science Week, Friendships, Pride Month and even more in between. Through the use of literature, we have explored all these different events and the cross-curricular possibilities have been endless. There is always something for everyone!

On Thursdays and Fridays, the Hub also focuses on Futures. Ms. Chambers and Mrs. Coley are available to discuss life beyond EHS, including work experience, A Level options, and university choices. We host career talks at lunch with EHS alumnae and professionals from various industries.
