A Celebration of Achievements

Sixth Form

18 November 2022

Last Wednesday evening was a special occasion for our Year 12 Students who were awarded their GCSE certificates. We were delighted to welcome family and friends to share in this recognition of their hard work, determination and self-belief.

Students from Key Stage 3 and 4 also received recognition for their hard work with awards presented for achievements in individual subjects and commitment to the school in the last academic year.

The evening’s proceedings were punctuated by two artistic interludes. A beautiful poem (see below), specially written for the occasion, was performed by EHS Poet Laureate, Year 13 student, Epper Xu. Maia Kanagaratnam also performed beautifully, singing Purcell’s 'Music for a While'.

There was an opportunity to catch up with friends at a drinks reception following the awards ceremony.

The event was a wonderful way to celebrate the achievements of our students and we thank everyone who attended.

A Poem about Achievement by Epper Xu

Achievement could be the soft splattering of rain on your windowsill
Or the bold stroke of colour that you remember still
It could be the sun when it bursts behind the clouds
Or getting the right horse on the merry go around.
To give you all my words of praise
Is rushing greatness in a haze
To sing your ballad on a lyre
Is squeezing water through a wire
For the sea can’t be poured in a cup
The Sun sealed in a tub
Your achievements cannot be contained
In the rhymes I have raised
