A Celebration of Achievement: Year 13 Prize Giving 2024/25
04 July 2025
Last week, the EHS community came together for one of the most heartwarming events in the school calendar, the Year 13 Prize Giving Ceremony. A joyful and poignant occasion, the afternoon was filled with pride, reflection, and celebration as we honoured the outstanding achievements of our Year 13 students, now preparing to take their next steps beyond EHS.
This year’s event was held in the Octagon, transformed with beautiful floral arrangements and soft draping fabric, a stunning setting quite unlike anything we’ve seen before.
We were privileged to be joined by Sir Dominic Cadbury, who opened the ceremony with heartfelt praise for our leavers. Chairman of Governors Martin Chitty shared the bittersweet news that Sir Dominic will be stepping down as President of the School after nearly 80 years of involvement, a journey that began when he first attended EHS as a boy. His contribution to school life has been truly extraordinary.
The ceremony continued with honourable mentions, the presentation of prizes, and the awarding of leavers’ certificates. Each prize recognised not only academic excellence but also the character, creativity, and spirit of the individuals receiving them. Year 13s were also warmly welcomed into the Laurel Association, our official alumnae network and a reminder that, while they may be leaving the classroom, they remain a valued part of the EHS family.
The creative talents of the year group were on full display. The EHS Choir gave moving recitals of As Torrents in Summer from King Olaf and Send in the Clowns, while a heartfelt reading of our 2024 Poet Laureate’s original poem captivated the audience as a perfect tribute to the shared experiences of the year.
After the formalities, the celebrations continued on the sun-drenched terrace where friends, family, and staff gathered to toast the Class of 2025 with strawberries, cream, and, of course, a glass of prosecco.
It was a truly wonderful afternoon and a fitting farewell to a very special year group. We will miss our Year 13s dearly and wish them every success as they await their results and prepare for the exciting adventures ahead. We look forward to seeing them one final time as students on Results Day, before they officially move into the Laurel Association and, we hope, stay connected with EHS for many years to come.
