¡Viva la Cocina Española!

Senior School

04 July 2025

Last week, our fabulous Year 10 Spanish students have gone above and beyond in a deliciously creative homework challenge! Tasked with choosing, explaining and preparing a Spanish tapas recipe, the girls brought an incredible blend of culinary flair, cultural curiosity and linguistic skill to the table - quite literally!

The classroom was transformed into a miniature Spanish cocina as pupils presented their dishes with much gusto. From traditional classics to modern takes, each recipe was lovingly explained, many with visual aids, demonstrations and mouth-watering samples. Special mention must go to Freya, whose outstanding step-by-step PowerPoint and cooking presentation of her Paella thoroughly impressed me. ¡Cuánto talento!

Rebecca amazed us with both her Pastel de Queso Vasco and a beautiful hand-drawn illustration to accompany it. Rosa’s refreshing Gazpacho and handwritten recipe gave us a true taste of Andalucía, while Talia’s Patatas Bravas brought just the right amount of spice to the occasion. Marissa S.’s Galletas Españolas were not only delicious but perfectly presented ¡una auténtica delicia!

It was wonderful to see so many pupils embrace the spirit of Spanish cuisine:

Marissa A., Polly and Esme wowed us with cheesy Quesadillas, Grace made a vibrant Paella, Sriharshini served up hearty Burritos, Ayesha's rich Dulce de Leche brownie was delicioso, Fiona impressed with her classic Tortilla de Patatas (the authentic, not the influencer’s way!), Isabella's Croquetas were beautifully made, Cheyenne brought the heat with her tasty fajitas, and Siana’s Patatas Bomba certainly lived up to their name, explosively good!

Bravo to all the pupils for cooking, presenting and sharing with such enthusiasm. It was a joy to see all my year 10s not only having a go at cooking but also learning so much about the Spanish cuisine; the aromas in the classroom were simply irresistible.

Thank you to every student who took part: you truly brought the flavours of Spain to Edgbaston High School.

¡Buen provecho y enhorabuena chicas!
