20 June 2025
Last Saturday, I was lucky enough to travel to Sheffield with our ESSA Swim team. ESSA is the English Schools Swimming Association and our Year Six girls had made it through to the national finals - a significant achievement. Schools from across the country were in attendance and it was lovely to see some friendly faces from Blue Coat School too. Our girls had qualified earlier in the year and have spent the past few months honing their skills and developing their team work. The girls did extremely well and made it through to both ‘A’ finals. However, what I was most proud of was that our team consisted of not only club swimmers, but also ‘home grown EHS talent’. As with any national competition the standard was extremely high and the majority of pupils were club swimmers or train with their county. What made our EHS team unique, was that we have trained our girls and given them the skills and confidence to achieve.
Unique and enriching learning opportunities for our girls are an exciting part of our provision and this week has been no exception. Whether it be our Year One girls in an outdoor Science Lab climbing trees in The Botanical Gardens, our Year Three pupils dissecting plants at Smite Farm, Year Six immersing themselves in Ancient Egypt through hands-on learning or Kindergarten with their cycling showcase, the breadth of experiences is impressive.
These enrichment activities highlight the joy in learning and I believe that life in a Prep School should have joy at its core. The girls know that I like to have fun, but I also have high expectations. They know that I trust them to make positive choices but, equally, there will be consequences if this trust is broken. Our shared set of values bring us together as a school and they are our strength. The girls at ESSA on Saturday certainly demonstrated the strength brought about by a shared goal and I hope that all of our girls will continue to share and celebrate our EHS values in the final few weeks of term.
Warmest (!) wishes for the weekend.
