News from the Head of Prep

Preparatory

02 May 2025

It has been wonderful to welcome our families back to school after the Easter break. Pupils and staff are well-rested, which is fortunate because this week has been a whirlwind of wonderful activities, teaching and learning. If you think you know what an all-girls education looks like, then think again; at EHS Prep School we are proud to be fearlessly female and the next few weeks are no exception. Our Year Four girls have enjoyed an incredible, outward bound residential trip this week. On Wednesday, many of our girls represented the school at the EHS Sports Personality of the Year, performing a breathtaking, gymnastics display as part of the opening ceremony. Achievements from Prep girls in rugby, football, dance, waterskiing, karate and swimming were celebrated and many congratulations go to Eliza and Ellise who received ‘Next Generation’ awards for their dedication, success and future potential in swimming.

Next week, Year Five embark on their residential trip to Cranedale in Yorkshire where they will focus on developing their resilience and risk-taking. The following week, Year Six will be overseas, immersing themselves in French culture and sampling local delicacies, including l’escargot!

Over forty Co-curricular clubs and activities have been in full swing this week, ranging from Cross-country running, Science, Computing and Mandarin clubs to professional coaching sessions led by The Priory Tennis Club professional coaches, Global Art Club and Junior Language Challenge to name but a few.

I was delighted to hear of the success of the girls who took part in the second round of the Bebras Coding Challenge. This national competition is a coding challenge to enhance skills, build confidence, and inspire students to develop programmed solutions to computational thinking problems. Our students performed exceptionally well, especially considering that this was our first time participating. Several of our girls achieved full marks which puts them in the top 8% in the country. Coding at EHS Prep School continues to go from strength to strength, enhanced by our provision of 1:1 iPads from every pupil from Reception to Year Six and through our continued investment in robotics resources.

I have no doubt this term will continue to be filled with wonderful successes from the very youngest members of our community to our soon to depart Year Six pupils and I cannot wait to see what these will be.

With warmest wishes for an enjoyable Bank Holiday weekend.
