Jessie Shines at Northfield Festival of Music and Speech

On Saturday 10 May, Jessie attended the Northfield Festival of Music and Speech. Jessie, who is currently in Year Five, has only been learning to play the piano for eighteen months. She was nominated by her piano teacher, Mrs Howell, who has been delighted by the progress Jessie has made in such a short space of time. In fact, Jessie has recently gained her Grade 6 piano award!
Jessie said it was the first time she had ever entered an external competition like this and she was looking forward to listening to everyone else and getting to know the level they were at.
As she took to the stage, she felt nervous and suddenly felt like she might forget the notes to play. She was third to play and the people who had played in front of her played very well. But Jessie rose to the occasion and to her great surprise, she was announced as the winner! When asked how she felt, she said, “I was really surprised because some of the boys and girls played very difficult pieces”.
What a great achievement for Jessie and surely a sign of more musical successes to come!
