EHS Students Explore Careers in Tech at KPMG
13 June 2025
On the 4th and 5th of June, five Year 10 students stepped into the heart of Birmingham’s business district to attend KPMG’s Girls in Technology conference, an inspiring two-day event held on the 11th floor of the firm’s striking city centre offices.
The conference offered students a unique opportunity to explore career pathways in the fast-evolving world of technology, data, and cyber security. Day one focused on team-building activities and insightful talks on topics including AI in the tax industry, project management, and data analytics. The students were then challenged with a real-world scenario: how to respond to a data breach at a school, working within a set budget to devise effective solutions.
Following a brilliant lunch and a tour of KPMG’s impressive office spaces, students returned for day two, which featured mentoring sessions, interactive memory games, and a fascinating cyber security talk led by Laurel Anah Ahee. In true EHS style, the students presented their plan to address the simulated cyber breach with creativity and passion. Their presentation even included a very accurate drawing of the EHS logo!
A huge congratulations to Asmitha, Polly, Shri, Lottie, and Rosa for delivering the winning presentation of the day. KPMG’s welcoming team ensured the students felt supported and inspired throughout the experience, highlighting the diverse career routes available within the company, from data and tax to sustainability and developments in technology. The conference also introduced students to KPMG’s apprenticeships and graduate schemes opportunities.
This experience is just one example of career guidance and real-world exposure offered to students at EHS. With the support of Mrs Coley and Mr Shutt, the Year 10 students had a fantastic two days and are already looking forward to returning in the autumn for further work experience.
