Year 7 Delves into Macbeth in Shakespeare’s Hometown
13 June 2025
On Tuesday, June 10th, the English Department took Year 7 students on a trip to Stratford upon Avon.
This year, girls have studied ‘Macbeth’ in their English lessons and the trip was organised so that students could enhance their understanding of the play and learn more about the life and times of William Shakespeare.
During the day, students visited Shakespeare’s Birthplace, Anne Hathaway’s Cottage, and enjoyed an interactive talk on ‘Macbeth’ at Hall’s Croft.
Student Millie from Year 7 said: ‘My favourite part of the day was looking around the houses and seeing where people used to live – it was really exciting to see what life was like for them. We also really enjoyed the gift shops!’
During their talk from staff from the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust, students were shown images of various past productions of ‘Macbeth’ before they created their own still images from different parts of the play.
At the Birthplace and Anne Hathaway’s Cottage, students toured the two properties and explored the grounds, including the sculpture trail in the orchard at Anne Hathaway’s.
Year 7 student Aahana said: ‘I really liked the Macbeth talk because we got to learn more about what we have studied in English and the acting bit was really fun – we had to
say a line and then create our own freeze frames, which were all quite dramatic!’
