Our fantastic location in the heart of leafy Edgbaston gives us excellent access to many of the incredible opportunities Birmingham has to offer. This week, our Year Four girls made the short walk to Priory Tennis Club, where they took their seats on Centre Court to enjoy a day of high-level international tennis. They had the chance to watch British Number One, Heather Watson, in a gripping match against Jessika Ponchet — a truly inspirational one.
With just six weeks left in the academic year, I focused my assembly this week on the core values we hold at EHS. I encouraged the girls to think about how they could show aspiration and courage in everything they do. There’s still plenty of time left to make this term count, and I highlighted how competitive sport can play a powerful role in shaping key skills that benefit them not only on the field but also in the classroom.
We are fortunate to have an outstanding Head of Prep PE, Mrs Stacey Sawyers, who works tirelessly to motivate the girls, make sport inclusive for all, and keep them active. Sport offers the perfect platform for our EHS values, and it remains a vital part of our holistic approach to education. Mrs Sawyers inspires and challenges our girls in equal measures and the thought and care that goes into her sporting provision is exemplary. The swimming gala against Warwick Prep on Thursday was a great example of this — the girls showed grit, perseverance, and excellence throughout. Their determination in the pool, combined with their respectful and inclusive behaviour poolside and at match tea, was a credit to them.
As we head into the final weeks of term, I look forward to seeing the girls rise to new challenges, aim high, and make strong, confident choices.
Wishing you all a well-earned and restful weekend.
Mrs Hobson
